Autumn!
October 16, 2007
HI! I hope you are all enjoying this Autumn. In Eastern PA we are having trouble deciding if this is really Autumn or just an extended Summer. Last week we hit record temperatures. Some of our leaves have started to change but mostly they are still green or have just dried up and fallen off. I guess this year we will have to have our Autumn colors in quilts. Our newest Christmas panel has arrived, a nativity scene in the most beautiful colors. The way it is colored makes it look like it is being lit from behind. I can't wait to use it. During November we will be participating in the Mall Crawl and also starting on the 15th of November we will be in the Treasure Hunt. Both logos are on the home page and the block for the Mall Crawl is in place. However, I haven't thought of a clue for it and since I can not really remember right now where it is I can't give you an advance hint! There is something for my 'to do' list. I have been working on the pattern for the hostess apron many of you saw at the Kutztown festival and quilt shows in which we participated. I will try to get it on line in the next week or two. During the last week of the month--October 24 through 31--we are having an Autumn Special. All orders will receive a 5% discount with the code AS7. Again this year we have a bumper crop of pears, although because of the lack of rain they are smaller than last year. One of my favorite recipes for the pears that are just a bit too ripe to eat fresh is for Pear Muffins. Here it is if you need a great breakfast treat. Pear Muffins 1-1/2 cups all purpose flour 1 teaspoon baking powder 1/4 teaspoon salt 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger 6 tablespoons butter 1 cup sugar 2 large eggs 2 teaspoons grated lemon peel 2/3 cup mashed pears Preheat Oven to 325 degrees Combine first 6 ingredients in a small bowl, set aside. Cream butter with sugar in large bowl until mixture is light and fluffy Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Add lemon peel. Mix in dry ingredients alternately with milk and mashed pears, beginning and ending with dry ingredients. Spoon batter into 12 muffin cups. Bake until golden brown 20-25 minutes. Enjoy your autumn and happy quilting! Marilyn
