Home from World Quilt Show Manchester

Aug 22, 2014

We have arrived home from the World Quilt Show in Manchester--I really think it was sometime this week but it has been one of those weeks that have no order. Next week promises to be the same.

We did get the photos of quilts from the show and the Hoffman Challenge quilts posted on our facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Wilsons-Calico-Corner/228777461016?ref=hl

In keeping with celebrating Christmas before Labor Day we have received Frosty the Snowman fabrics and Elf on the Shelf Fabrics--at least our industry has a reason to get it in early--we have to have time to use it!! Both these collections can be found on our Holidays and Celebrations page (http://www.wilsonscalico.com/fabric-christmas.html). I am thinking of a snowman using the snowball block and the frosty fabric--hopefully that comes together and I can post a picture.

The blue butterfly embroidered quilt on the home page was made by my neighbor, an old order Amish lady. It is for sale, if you are interested please contact me.

Before going to the Quilt Show I needed to use some peaches. As Mom used to make an amazing cobbler I tried to duplicate it. It was close but do we ever make anything as good as Mom did when we were growing up?

Peach Cobbler

3-4 peaches peeled and cut
1/4 cup sugar (or to taste)
3 T flour

1 cup flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 1/2 Tablespoon butter
3/4 to 1 cup yogurt

Spread peaches in an 8" square pan, add sugar and flour. Mix.

Mix flour, salt, and baking powder. Cut butter into flour mixture until it resembles crumbs. Add yogurt to make a sticky dough.

Spread topping over peaches and bake at 350° for 20 to 25 minutes or until a knife comes out clean and the peaches are bubbly.
