Great New Panels Have Arrived

Jan 31, 2010

I hope you are all keeping warm, especially in the South East US. We spent a few days in Atlanta over the Christmas Holidays and had to travel to South Carolina before the temperature was as warm as it was in PA. The junior partner was very disappointed as she thought it should get warmer the farther south we went instead of colder. She did however get to drive a little in Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina and a whole lot in Virginia--those rest stops were very far apart. Hopefully next Saturday you will all hear a loud noise--that would be her passing her driver's test.

Finally "The Pokey Little Puppy" has arrived--Guess he was living up to his name. It is a yard panel for a soft book but I have used it for a small purse/tote and want to make a backpack with another picture from the panel. The remainder will probably end up in a crib quilt. The pictures are a great size for many projects--8" square.

Also arriving are a train panel, kittens, florals, deer, patriotic panel, and Diane Phalen's winter quilts. Check them all out on the Fabrics page.

This year we have started a "Deal of the Day" but because of my track record the 'deals' actually last for a week. They start each Monday.

We are continuing the leaf blocks for our Block of the Month that is still somewhat of a mystery but we are getting closer. The 4" blocks have all been completed and we are now working on 6" leaves.

Currently the kids favorite muffin:

Cranberry/Orange Muffins

1-3/4 cups all purpose flour
1/2 cup whole wheat flour
3/4 cup sugar
1 Tablespoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 cup cranberries
1 8 oz can mandarin oranges, drained
1/2 cup sliced natural almonds
1/3 cup butter or margarine
1 cup milk
1 large egg
cinnamon sugar

Heat oven to 375 degrees.

Combine the flours, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and nutmeg. Stir to mix. Add Cranberries, oranges, and almonds. toss to mix and set aside.

Melt the butter in a 1-quart saucepan. Cool slightly, stir in milk, then beat in the egg. Stir liquid into flour mixture just until moistened. The batter will be lumpy. Divide the batter among the greased/paper lined cups. Sprinkle the top with cinnamon sugar.

Bake 30 to 35 minutes for jumbo muffins or 20 minutes for regular ones.

Enjoy and have a great 2010
